A Life Worth Living
If you had asked me as a young girl or as a woman in my early adult life if I wanted to become a published author, I would probably have said no, or my usual, I don't know.
Curiosity around my writing practice and the healing and insights discovered along the way was the breadcrumb that led to the dream to become an author.
My interests, desires, and dreams have always been in flux, easily influenced by external circumstances and cultural messaging. Discovering what I am passionate about has been and continues to be an infinite evolving process that I am still uncovering and discovering at 42.
In 2017 I aspired to become a published writer. I had no plan or outline to realize this goal. My declaration and intention landed as a prayer in the hands of the Universe.
A month later, a friend recommended I check out a local creative writing class for women. The space was cozy and intimate, and the group size was small. The classes influenced many drafts that would later become a series of my first blog posts published in 2018.
I was inspired by the transformative art of writing and the class's impact on women that I became a certified intuitive writing facilitator.
In 2020 I began offering writing classes for women, and during that time, I became curious about horses. Low and behold, Rachel Winner, a horse trainer, and equine therapy facilitator was referred to my class. I started to work with Rachel and her horse, Cody, and my love for horses unfolded.
In January of 2021, I signed up for a Tiny Book course with no clue what I would write or expectation to publish a book.
As fate would have it, my experience with Rachel and Cody was the heartfelt primer that encouraged me to write my book. To share my connection on learning to ride, exploring feelings, listening to and trusting intuition, and following curiosity and one's heart.
When you follow your curiosity and enjoyment, possibilities and opportunities unfold in ways you may not understand until later when you connect the dots.
Dreams can hit automatically, or they can evolve. When we discover a dream, the answers or knowledge to realize them may not be apparent.
Curiosity asks you what you are a tiny bit interested in right now—one curious step at a time. You don't need to know your dreams' who, what, when, where, and why.
When we listen and take the next best curious step and let go of the desired outcome and artificial timeline to realize our dreams and passions and practice leaning into what feels good, we honor our pace and process. Discovering more of what we desire and don't—opening the doors for dreams and passions to unfold one inquisitive step at a time.
I never gave up on my dream to write, ride, and publish. The accumulation of consistent practice of curiosity, bravery, vulnerability, listening to my heart, and watching for clues of the Universe was the recipe and necessary steps to share my wonderful book, Wild Horse, Wild Heart, with you.
Dreams can come true, or they may not. Dreams may also adapt and change along the way. When we follow the breadcrumbs of curiosity, it might lead to what we aspire to, or it may not.
But at least you followed your curiosity, and that is a life worth living.
